There are no perfect words to express how much we all wish to return to our pre-pandemic societies. With the recent developments regarding the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, this wish seems more within reach. But something that we all must acknowledge is that our everyday routines will and have been forever changed by this pandemic.

What We Have Learned

If the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it's that sanitization needs to become a prevalent part of our everyday lives. Things that we have once never thought about continue to stay at the forefront of our minds. One of those thoughts includes the likely possibility of on-going disease outbreaks.

If we hope to protect ourselves from future outbreaks, we must normalize regular disinfection in public practice and in our personal lives. Despite our understanding of how disinfecting can save lives, many of us still find it an uncomfortable and frustrating subject to broach. Disinfecting is crucial for our future well-being, let us normalize it.

Moving Forward

To make a change, we have to educate ourselves. The pandemic has not only had drastic effects on our economy but our ecosystem as well. Our rainforests have been under strain long before the pandemic. According to the Brazilian Space Agency’s deforestation monitoring system, the Amazon rainforest saw a 50% uptick in deforestation. And this happened within only the first three months of 2020.

As biodiversity decreases, we may see an increase in deadly diseases. The science behind these claims is still forming, but there is an overwhelming amount of evidence showing that it is true. Big companies will continue to add to the strain on our ecosystem. The least we can do is arming ourselves appropriately for what is to come.

One of the ways we can best do this is to place an emphasis on cell phone hygiene. Experts estimate that cell phones can have ten times more germs than a toilet seat. The harmful viruses and bacteria found on them can weaken our immune systems and make us more susceptible to deadly viruses like the Covid-19.

When most of us think of disinfecting our cell phones, we think of using a disposable wipe. But disposable wipes ultimately have negative effects on our ecosystem and should be avoided.

So, what other options do we have that have a lower negative impact on our ecosystem? UV-C light sanitizers may just be the answer. Science has shown that UV-C light is a powerful and effective disinfectant for some of the toughest bugs in the world. Personal UV-C phone cleaning boxes are available online, but what if we made life much easier by having a central system in high traffic, public areas?
